There was one a blind wali who used to pray in a cave. Some people wanted to scare him and one said I’ll pretend I’m dead and he’ll pray over me and then I’ll scream in his face. They went to him to ask him to prayer over their dead friend, the wali asked if they had washed him. They went back to their friend and found him dead, they washed him and the wali prayed over him.

They are many miracles and the biggest miracle is being steadfast

Quran: the Awliya do not fear nor do they grieve

The Ayah gives us a way to be them

The Quran doesn’t not give you a situation without giving you a key to its solution

In society we have groups, classification.

Class, character – go to the Masjid certain people etc

Even the souls that love each other are near each other

Luqman tells his son to find the Awilya and love them because if you do being with in their company may a reason for your forgiveness

There is a Hadith the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) found some of hs companions sitting in the group, the angels informed him that they where forgiven

Look for good company

If you are with a good companion then its like being with a perfume seller and being with bad company is the opposite

Remember the hadith that the man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) “When is the hour?” he asked, “What have your prepared for it?” said the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) “nothing, except I love Allah and his Messenger.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “you will be with who you love.”

Check your heart, who do you love? Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)

Awilya comes from Wali which means closeness A’du means enemy which means running away

Awilya means the one who is close, supports and the one who loves

Oppressors are have Awilya and disbelievers also, protectors of each other

The Muslims are Awilya upon each other

To be a wali means to prohibit evil, command the good, establish prayer, pay zakat and they obey Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala and his messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)

Angels can help the believers – look at Badr the angels came to help the Muslims

And they will help some people on the day of judgement, this is from Allah subahnu wa ta’ala

There is an ayah where Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala, his Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and those who believe are protectors, the ones who pray and give charity whilst bowing. Imam Tabari and Razi commented on the section, “whilst bowing.” They narrate that man came to the Masjid An-Nabi and asked people for money, no one gave him anything and he prayed to Allah and said be my witness I have asked for money in the house of your Prophet and no one gave me anything. Ali ibn Talib was in prayer bowing, he threw his ring at him and took it as charity

Imam Suyuti says the Awilya means that when they are in a place Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala is mentioned

People make two kinds of Dhikr of creator or creation

When Dhikr is mentioned it is always mentioned as a lot (Kathin)

The one who is close to Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala is the one mentions him a lot, in every action

He is with Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala his is disconnected from creation and he is linked to only to the creator

Awilya don’t see their actions they don’t mention it to others

They do not see the deed and they worry if the deed is accepted or not

Umar ibn abdul aziz (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “If there was a call on the day of judgement that everyone will be excepted into heaven except one, I think that would be me.”

The people who are absent from Dhikr and others are absent in Dhikr

People absent in their prayer

The point is not quality and not quantity

Some companions used to apply one ayah and now people read the whole Quran and don’t apply it

You have faith and piety

Scholars have said Piety means –
1. Fearing Allah,
2. Work with the Quran
3. Contentment with little
4. Preparing for departure

There no fear upon them and no sadness. Fear is for the future and sadness is for the past

What is the worst disaster for the Awilya, to sin

Imam Razi went into the desert with his teacher some wild animals came, his teacher was reading the Quran and kept reading. When they left, a little mosquito came near his teacher was scared. Imam Razi said yesterday we had wild animals near you and you weren’t scared and now you are scared of a mosquito? He said I was making remembrance of Allah and that was protecting me, now I am alone

It was noted in the opening of Africa to the Muslims they came across a valley, it was known as the valley of death. They leader was advised to go around it, he refused and went to the valley with some men and said, “O’ inhabitants of the valley, tomorrow I will cross this valley with my men and if I see anything I will kill it.” Snakes could be seen leaving their holes to make way for them.


Lesson two of three

Can people still attain this rank?

Yes this is blessing until the day of judgement

There are three kinds of Awilya,
1. The ones who everyone knows,
2. The ones that the special people know,
3. The ones who only Awilya/Prophets know

Owais Al-Qarni (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told the companions to pray to him

There will be people who enter heaven secretly because they prayed secretly

The first condition of the Awilya is to have knowledge, to know Allah subhanu wa ta’ala

Scholars inherit the knowledge and waliyya

If Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala can teach a man who doesn’t know

When people have this knowledge then they realise what worship is

Are those who know and those who don’t, equal?

Sincerity is what Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala knows

Awilya have knowledge, sincerity, love and follow the sunna

We don’t know the names of Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala but wwe know names of football player, film stars

Know people ask about the Sunna – to avoid it

Someone asked him about the beard it’s Sunna in Shafi and Maliki fiqh and the questioner wanted to know to avoid it

Its only Sunna!???

The Sunna is the key to success

Another sign is good deeds

In the hadith Qudsi it states the Fard is a means to drawing closer

Some people put the Sunna over the fard

Ibn Hajar said the one who is busy with the fard so he cant do the sunna, he has an excuse and the one doing the Sunna and leaving the fard is fooled.

Pray the twelve rakat (2 b4 fajr, 4 b4 zuhr and 2 after, 2 after Magrib and 2 after Isha) and Allah will build you a palace in heaven, some people work thirty years for a two bedroom house

Observing Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala, when you pray you know he sees you

People who bring themselves into account

Purification of clothes and bodily

You love people for the sake of Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala

THE NOBLE WOMEN OF ISLAM

The shaykh talks about the ayah of the Quran, “We have honoured the offspring of Adam”.

Allah Subhanu wa ta'ala distinguished Adam from the creation, honoured him and gave him prophecy, as well as ordering the Malaika (angels) to bow to him.

Adam [Upon him peace] is the father of all prophets in terms of genealogy, but Rasoolullah (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam), is the father of all the Prophets in terms of prophecy because of the hadith “I was a prophet when Adam was not created yet”.

Everything that is connected to the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) is honoured because of him.

He (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) is the only one who has the ultimate Maqam of shifa’a (station of intercession). He is the shaf’ee (intercessor) of all the prophets and the creation and yet not in need of anyone’s shifa’a. (intercession)

You eat the dates because he (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) ate them.

Medina became Munawarra (enlightened) due to his Nur (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam).

His book became the most honourable book, his Sunna became the most honourable, his Sahaba (Companions) [Radiallahu Anhum] became the most honourable people….

His family became the most honourable family, and his wives became the “mothers of the believers” and that is what we are here to talk about today.

They are amongst the most honourable women to ever put foot on earth.


Sayyida Amina

We do injustice to this noble woman because we do not learn enough about her and don’t talk much about her.

We are often shy to talk about her, because some strange people are eager to make her destiny hellfire.

Abdul Mutalib [Radiallahu anhu] use to have 10 sons and he use to walk with them, and it would appear as the sun and the planets around him.

Abdullah [Radiallahu anhu] went for trading with his father and got use to doing trading and earning for his family…

After Abdullah [Radiallahu anhu] was free from being sacrificed, he was with his father and a woman [Qutaila] approaches him and says that if you leave your father, and marry me, I will give you millions, due to his beauty.

He looks at her and says, “I can not disobey my father”.

Abdul Mutalib [Radiallahu anhu] goes to the Bani Zuhra tribe, very educated people and asked for Sayyida Amina [Radiallahu anha], and the marriage takes place immediately there.

That day, all the women of the city were crying, because they all wanted to marry him.

After 3 days his father informs him that he has to go to Shaam for trading, obeying his father and on the way he sees the same woman who offered him marriage and she ignores him, and he stops and says “How come you are not offering me marriage now and you were before?”.

She replied “Because the light that was between your face has now gone”.

While in Shaam, he dies, and Sayyida Amina [Radiallahu anha] was pregnant and carried that light, and had Rasoolullah (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam).

Amina [Radiallahu anha] was a woman of high morals, well raised, well educated and very sensitive personality.

She hears of the death of her husband [while being 2 months pregnant] and says a few lines of poetry in his honour…

Days of sadness start for her until the beloved is born.

There are many narrations that mention that the angels use to be around her during her pregnancy.

The birth of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) comforts her.

She gave the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) for nursing in the desert, as the tradition of those days.

He (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) had a great relationship with his mother, as you can see in the hadith.

Do you see the pattern, that the women in the family of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) did not live very long… as if Allah Subhanu wa’ ta’ala wants to take her to a better place…

We take many things from her personality, like Sabr (patience) after her husband died, and the difficulties she faced during bringing up the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam).

She once went to Medina, before her death and took the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) with him and she started crying, and the women in Medina, cried with her too.

This family is to sustain lots of hardships and days of sadness, but the price they paid was worth it.

She taught our mothers and wives, so much patience and maturity - that is needed.


Sayyida Aisha

A different personality from the household of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam).

She lived 66 years approximately, and she was a Faqiha (jurist) who taught many of the Sahaba [Radiallahu Anha], she was a Madrassah (school) herself.

She rejected the narration of various Sahaba [Radiallahu Anhum], indicating her vast knowledge.

She once came to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) and said “ya Rasool-allah, all your wives have their nicknames, yet I don’t have one.
He tells her, “We will call you umm abdullah”.

She says, “I was thin with a light face, and I went with him and he said lets race and see who is going to go ahead, we raced and I went ahead of him and won him, and he smiled. Then few years later when I put weight on, we raced and he beat me and reminded me that this is the revenge for the last defeat”.

He (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) would also take her for night walks many times, and he would teach her Quran and Tafseer etc…

She would ask lots of questions naturally and the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) said to her, I know when you are happy and when you are angry….

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) said, “This life has many things to offer, but the best thing life has to offer is the pious wife. The best of you are those who are best to their wives, and I am the best of you to my wives”.

When the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) was with Sayyida Aisha [Radiallahu Anha], Umm Salama sent a plate, and Aisha [Radiallahu Anha] got a little jealous and pushed the plate and it fell on the floor, but look at the akhlaq (character) of the beloved. He never shouted at her or said anything to her, but he smiles and picks the food and the plate himself, and calls the servant who came with the food, tells him to wait and says “your mother got jealous”. He tells Aisha [Radiallahu Anha] to cook food and gives a plate to the servant and says “tell Umm Salama that this is from Aisha [Radiallahu Anha]”.


A man once came to her and asked her a Mas’ala (issue) about wiping over the socks and she said, “Go to Ali [Radiallahu Anha], and ask him, as he has more knowledge than me”.

She use to cry so much that her veils use to become pitch wet, she was very spiritual…

The eye that pours and cries to Allah Subhanu wa’ta’ala is the eye that is forgiven.

On her death bed, Ibn Abbas [Radiallahu Anhu], asked to come and give her salams, but she says, “Tell him not to come, because he will say good things about me, and I wish I was forgotten”. But he goes in and says good things about her…

We learn that the wives role is not just to be in the kitchen, look at the roles of Aisha [Radiallahu Anha] as a wife, she was doing many other things, including taking place in battles, and serving the Mujahideen in the wars…

Sayyida Khadija

A very unique woman, who was very beloved to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) and he said in a (authentic) sahih hadith “Allah gave me the love of Khadija”.

There is a difference between saying, “I love her” and “her love was given to me”.

The first Muslim/Muslima and one of the 4 perfect women, and they are “Asiya, Maryam, Khadija, Fatima”. So if you want to be a perfect woman, then they are your examples.

She is the supporter of Islam and Muslimeen, and many scholars say, if it was not for the money of Khadija [Radiallahu Anhu] and the Sword of Ali, Islam would not have spread.

She was a billionaire, owning thousands and thousands of camels, and after her marriage she put everything before Quraish, and said, “Be a witness that everything I own, is owned by Muhammad,” (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam).

A very mature and very balanced woman, with her sight on the future..

Look at the Imaan (faith) of Khadija that when the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) came back from Hira, she never asked him, “What were you doing alone in the cave etc” rather supported him and said “Allah will never abandon you”.

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) was sitting and Jibreel came to him and Khadija was walking with food in her hand. Jibreel said, “Ya Rasoolallah, tell Khadija that Allah sends her salam and also give her my salam too”.

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) tells her that Allah sends you his salam, and she smiles and says “Allah is salam” and Jibreel can take the salam from me. Jibreel then says “ Take the good news that there is a house waiting for you in Jannah where there is no noise and no trouble”.

She was also one of those who was put in jail for 3 years, and as a result of that , shortly after she died.

After her passing away, he would have food slaughtered and send it to her friends

Aisha [Radiallahu Anha] says that, “Why do you keep mentioning you her when you have someone better than her.” He replied, “No, she believed in me, when everyone abandoned me, she gave me, when people took from me, she protected me, when people wanted to kill me. And Allah gave me from her offspring and he didn’t give me children from any other woman.”

So Aisha [Radiallahu Anha] said, “I will never mention Khadija [Radiallahu Anha] in front of you again.”


Sayyida Fatima

The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) said, “Fatima is a piece of me.”

Everybody is something else, except Fatima, she is a piece of me.

Opinion of Umar [Radiallahu Anhu] said, “Nobody is better than Fatima [Radiallahu Anha] because the Prophet (sallalalahu alaihi wa’alihi wassalam) said “Fatima is a piece of me.”

She was born on a Friday, another blessing of the day of Friday.

Fatima as a name comes from Fatama, which means “when you breast feed a baby for 2 years and then you stop feeding and prevent it from milk”. So Fatima is prevented but from what? She is protected from the hellfire.

Khadijas nick name was “Tahira”, but Fatimas nick names were “As-Siddiqa”, “Radia” , “Mardiya” , “Zakiya” also “ummu abeeha [the mother of her father]”.

Also she was called “Zahra”, and that comes from “glooming or shining”, so she is glooming and shining. Imam Baqer said, “When she stands for salah, her light shines from there to the heavens”.

The wife of Abu Talib [Radiallahu Anha] use to love the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wassalam) more than her own kids, and he use to call her “Mother after my mother”. She was called Fatima Bint Assad, and when she died “The Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wassalam) went into her grave and lay there first, and then came out and said , now bury her”. Due to her name being Fatima, he also called his daughter Fatima.

After the death of Khadija [Radiallahu Anha] and all the close ones to the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wassalam), Fatima was the one who use to take care of his needs, hence called “the mother of his father.” yet she was only 8 years old or so.

Umm Salama [Radiallahu Anha] says, “No person of the family resembled him (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) more than Fatima, and when the Sahabiyyas (companions) wanted to see a glimpse of the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam), they would just look at Fatima [Radiallahu Anha], because they saw him (sallalalahu alaihi wa alihi wassalam) in her.

Aisha [Radiallahu Anha] said, “Nobody is close to the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa’alihi wassalam) in talk, in speech and walk than Fatima [Radiallahu Anha].

Look as the way she raised her son Hassan [Radiallahu Anhu], and sees him making duas (supplication) and says “Did you make dua (supplication) for the neighbours too?”

She comes to the Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa’alihi wassalam) once and her hands are not smooth due to the grinding of wheat etc…. and says, “Can you spare us a khadim (servant) who can help us?” The Prophet (sallalalahu alaihi wa alihi wssalam) says, “I will give you something that is better than a servant and tells her to recite Allah o akbar 34 times, Subhanllah 33 times, Alhamduillah 33 times, so that Allah will alleviate all her pains for her.

The Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wa’alihi wassalam) use to kiss her hands and forehead, and she would get up for him and seat him vice versa….



"I looked at all friends, and did not find a better friend than safeguarding the tongue. I thought about all dresses, but did not find a better dress than piety. I thought about all types of wealth, but did not find a better wealth than contentment in little. I thought of all types of good deeds, but did not find a better deed than offering good advice. I looked at all types of sustenance, but did not find a better sustenance than patience." Umar(May Allah be pleased with him)

The Awliya of Allah – Part 1

Jakallah khair Arshad Mahmood

Arabic: Alaa Inna Awliyaa Allahi La Hawfun Alaihim Wa’laa Hum Yahzanoon. Aladeena Amanoo Wa kanoo Yataqoon…… [Surah Yunus, Verses 62- 63]

Translation: Truly, the Awliya of Allah (Subhanu wa ta’ala) do not fear nor are they sad. Are those who believe and fear Allah. 62-63

For them is good tidings in the world and the afterlife 64.

The shaykh asks “who are the Awliya of Allah and how does one become one?”

The Quran does not give you a situation, without giving you the key to solving the situation….

So who are they? Those who believe and they have Taqwa.

If you look at society, it is divided into groups, e.g criminals, educated etc…

You see the people with good morals and character, they are also together, in the Masjids, people of knowledge, not only with their bodies but their souls too.

The Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] said, “The souls of human beings are like soldiers, those souls if they like each other are around each other”. Those that do not like each other, are far away from each other.

Luqman [Alaihis Salam] tells his son “You need to find the Awliya of Allah and love them, because maybe Allah looks in the heart of one of them, and sees your name there and forgives you because of them”.

The Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] once comes out to a Halaqa of the Sahaba [Radiallahu Anhum], and asks what are you doing?

They said “We do not sit, except to make Dhikr to Allah, and say Alhamdulilah, Allahu Akbar, Lailaha illalah…”

He [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] said “Only for Allah and nothing else made you sit?” They said, “Our beloved nothing made us sit but that.”

He said, “I have not asked you out of suspicion or anything, but Jibreel came to me and told me that Allah [Subhanahu Wa’taala] is proud of you.

The angels are honourable slaves of Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala, they report what they see.

Another narration says, angels report to Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala, and say, there was a person amongst those who remembered you in a gathering, he just popped by, didn’t come for intention to remember you, and Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala says to them “because of them, I forgive him/her too”.

So look for these kinds of gatherings and people, so that Allah may forgive you for their Suhba [Companionship].

The Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] also mentions about finding good companionship, who is a good companion?

If you are with a good person, then you are like who sells perfume, if you don’t get anything else from them, at least you will smell good, but if you are with bad company then they will make you like them.

So be with those who have love for Allah [Subhanahu Wa’ta’ala], his Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] and his companions and his family.

A Bedouin once came to the Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] and asked about the day of judgement, and he [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] looked at him and asked “What have you prepared for it?”. He was overtaken by the question and said “I have not prepared much for it, except I thing, I love Allah and his Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam]. So he told him, “You are with who you love”.

Awliya is the plural for Wali and Wali comes from Wilaya. Wilaya means “Qurb” which means “closeness”. The opposite is “Aduw” which is enemy, and Aduw means “running away”. So the Aduw is far and Wali is close to Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ala].

It also means, the one who supports and loves or is faithful and loyal..

But the word Wali could mean many things….

As the Quran talks about “protectors of Zalimeen…” and some peoples Wali’s are the Shayateen. Hence you see people with rotten personalities.

Al Quran says, “The Mumineen are the Awliyas of one another…”

What does this Wilaya mean?

The Quran then goes on to say, “They encourage one another to promote good and forbid evil, they perform their salah, and pay their zakah, and obey Allah and his Messenger ….

So people are even a level above, and the Angels are their Awliya, they are loved by the angels…

The Quran says “Those who say, Allah is our lord, and then walk on a straight path”. The angels descend on them, and say “don’t be fearful, don’t be sad, just wait for the Jannah that you were promised. We are your Walis in the duniya and the akhira ….”

Those who are faithful, the angels tell them “this is not from us, but from the Ghafoor Ar-Rahim”.

In the battle of Badr, the Angels were the Awliya of the army of the prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam].

The greatest of the Awliya are the Prophets [Alaihimus Salam] and then “The Sahaba [Radiallahu Anhum Ajma’een] and then the Ahlul Bayt [Radiallahu Anhum Ajma’een] …..

The Mufasireen [Imam Qurtubi/Razi and others] mention regarding some verses in Surah Al Ma’idah the ayahs translate to, “Your wali is Allah and his Prophet and those who believe, those who are praying and give Zakah while they are making rukhu”.

They explain that a man came to the Masjid of the prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] and asked for charity and nobody gave it to him, as all those present were very very poor.

After exhausting his efforts, he makes a dua loudly “Oh Allah, be my witness, that I asked people in the Masjid of your Prophet and nobody gave me anything”.

In these moments, Abu Dhar [Radiallahu Anhu] says “Ali [Radiallahu Anhu] was praying, and when he heard this dua from this man, he took his ring off and threw it to this man as Sadaqa” and then these verses were revealed.

Imam Suytui [Radiallahu Anhu] has a different opinion as to who the Awliya of Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ala] are;

He says, “The Awliya of Allah are those, if you see them, Allah is mentioned, and if they are absent, they are missed and if they come Allah will be mentioned”.

There are 2 kinds of Dhikr;

a) Dhikr of the Khaaliq [Creator].
b) Dhikr of the Khalq [Creation].

The Dhikr of Allah [Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala] is the cure of all diseases.

Allah Subhanu wa ta’ala did not mention anything of much, but Dhikr.. In the Quran he often talks about perform Salah, Hajj, Zakah, but when he talks about Dhikr, he says “do it in abundance [Shaykh gives many references from the Quran]”.

So what kinds of Wilaya are we talking about?

There is 2 kinds;

a) Wilaya A’ama [general, as referred to in the Quran]

b) Wilaya Khaasa [those who are close to Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ala]]

The scholars mention that the “Wali Khasa” is the one whose heart is busy with the Nur of the knowledge of Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ala], so that when he talks, he talks the words of Allah, when he listens, he listens to the Ayahs of Allah, when he walks, he walks with the service of the Deen of Allah, when he talks, he talks about the greatness of Allah, when he thinks, he thinks about the glory of Allah, when he does, he does it for Allah, when he takes, he takes for Allah, when he spends, he spends for Allah…….

He is for Allah, by Allah, with Allah, to Allah…….

The scholars mention, he is disconnected from the creation and connected to the creator.

Then these Awliya have to go through these steps of not seeing their deeds and actions.

Often people go to the Masjid to pray, and their prayer becomes big to them, they feel “Alhamdulilah, I pray, I fast….”. Even if they don’t tell people, they tell themselves and feel proud within themselves. They take for granted that the reward is added to their balance.

The Awliya of Allah have gone beyond this, Al Quran mentions that when these Awliya do deeds, their heart is worried as to whether their deeds will be accepted or not.

Umar Ibn Abdul Aziz mentions “On the day of judgement, if one caller stands and says that everyone is going to Heaven, except one, I would think that person is me.”

You see these people in their dua, salah, siyaam and have the utmost sincerity as to whether their deeds will be accepted or thrown on their faces. They worry when they reach day of judgement, will their book of deeds have anything it in or will it be empty.

Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani [Radiallahu Ta’ala Anhu] mentions 4 steps in the remembrance of Allah swt.

1. There are those who are absent from the Dhikr, their mind is on those things that will perish them.

2. There are those who are absent in Dhikr, they pray , do dhikr, but their mind is elsewhere, worrying about their business etc. Some plan their day in their prayer…..Their Istighfar also needs an Istighfar, the point is not quantity but quality.

[The shaykh never mentioned the other two]

Belief and Taqwa are 2 conditions necessary for becoming a Wali of Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ala].

What is Taqwa?

Scholars mentioned 4 things;

1. Being fearful from Allah.

2. You work with the Quran. In order words, someone who is ignorant, can not have Taqwa as they don’t have a relationship with the Quran, and that is important.

3. That you are pleased with what Allah [Subhanahu Wa tala] gave you.

4. Preparation for the day of departure.

If these are present, you may become amongst the Awliya, but it requires dedication and commitment, as you need to be detached from the duniya and attached to the akhira.

A Sahabi [Radiallahu Anhu] came to the prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam] and said “when I am worshipping Allah as though I am seeing him, I see the people of Jannah visiting one another, and the people of Jahanam blaming each other”. So the Prophet [Sallalalahu Alaihi Wa Alihi Wassalam]. Said, “Now that you know, now stick to it”.

Fear usually happens, for something that may happen in the future, and sadness happens for something that happened in the past or present. So when Allah [Subhanu Wa ta’ ala] says “there is no fear on them, nor will they be sad”. It means that Allah’s [Subhanu Wa ta’ ala] love, protection and mercy is with them”.

Amongst the worst fear of the Awliya is “sinning” and amongst the Miracles of the Awliya is that “Allah protects them from sinning”.

Imam Raazi [Mufasir] mentions in his Tafsir that “Ibrahim Al Hawas went out to the desert with one of his students and they were mentioning Allah and all of a sudden, some vicious animals came close and his student ran to the tree, while his teacher just stayed reciting the Quran, and the animals just sat in front of him listening for hours and hours , and his teacher didn’t even see them.
The next day we are walking and “a mosquito is flying” and the shaykh is scared of it.

So his student asks him “Subhanallah Shaykh, what is this? Yesterday you had animals that eat people, and you were not scared and today a little mosquito scares you?”

The shaykh replied, “yesterday I was in the Dhikr of Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ ala] and my power was given to me by Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ ala], and now I am on my own.

Ibn Katheer mentions on the liberation of Africa, “There was a valley of death, so anyone who crossed it, would be killed by animals, as it is filled with snakes etc”.
The liberator of the Muslim army went and stood at the edge of the valley, and said, “Oh inhabitants of the valley, tomorrow I plan to cross with my soldiers, if you stand in front, I will wipe you all away”. The narrators say, “All the snakes were seen moving out of the way”.

The Ayah continues, they are given good news of this life…

Everyone wants happiness, some have plenty of wealth, but still not happy, why?

Allah [Subhanahu Wa ta’ ala] says “who does not do my Dhikr, will have a life filled with hardships”.

Imam Junaid [Radiallahu Ta’ala Anhu] said “We have a kind of happiness, that if the kings knew we had, they would fight us for it with their swords”.

A poet says “The true happiness in life is being closeness to the Fuqara [those needy to Allah only, not necessarily poor], they are the actual Sultans, and Ameers and Kings, and therefore, be around them, and have Adaab when you talk to them, and leave your Nafs behind, and watch your heart, and notice that he pleasure of Allah will be revealed to those who are with them”.

Trust in Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) Part two

Those who believe are the ones who send prayers onto the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him). Your prayers on him increases your faith

Any place with Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) depends on your place with the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him)

The book of Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) is beautiful, this is the book of success

Our "christmas gift" is salat on the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him)

They give you manual for everything even a pen. Every maker makes a manual, Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) made the Quran our manual. (You get a manual with a lot of things,i.e. cars, computers etc. You look in the manual to find a solution to problem. So every maker (of something) makes a manual. Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala made the Quran our manual.When things go wrong , look in the manual!)

Allah's (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) promise will never be changed.

The Quran states; "He who does good and is a believer, we will give him the best of lives."

See Sura Al Asr

There was a sheppard once, who every time he prayed one of sheep died, until he had two left, he looked at them and said, "Will you shut up or shall I pray 2 rakat?"

Do you think that really deserve to be forgiven, when you are asking for forgiveness or are you just doing "lip service."

Sometimes faith decreases until someone goes to hell

Deeds are collective and individual, we must ask ourselves,
Do we furfill Allahs (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) rights?
Do we furfill the Sunna?
Do we abide by the Quran?

What about your kids? Husband rights? women’s rights? What are we doing? We must go back to Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala

We could all be disobeying Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala and we could be punished for other peoples sins.

Do not disobey the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) by leaving the Law, in order to get money and then disobey, the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) because you have left the Sunna

At the battle of Uhud, Hamza and the other companions (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with them) were killed because the archers left theeir positions then the Quresh counter attacked.

War is declared on the Riba takers by Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) and his Messenger (peace and blessings upon him). The collective Umma must go back to Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) and ask for forgiveness

We must as a community call people to good, then await the victory of Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala)

Habab (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with them) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him), he face filled with blood and said, “why don’t you pray for us? To decrease this torture.” The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, “ Before you they would put a man in a hole and cover him, then split his head. They will use iron combs to take off their skin, this didn’t take them from their deen. This deen will succeed until someone will go from here to Yemen and have nothing to fear except a wolf. You are a people are too quick.”

If a person attacked the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) personally, he never retaliated

Uthman Ibn Talhah had the keys to the ka’ba, he would let people in, one day the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) joined the queue. Uthman didn’t let him in and closed the door on his face, the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) smiled and said, “How will you be when I will have the keys?” “The Quresh will be destroyed.” The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) said, “No, the Quresh will be masters.”

“Do not be distressed, Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) is with us.” Said the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) to Abu bakr (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with them) in the cave as they made migration to Medina from Mecca.

“I am with Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) and he will guide me.” Said Musa (upon him peace) when he was at the banks of the Nile whilst being chased by Pharaoh

He who has Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) how can he lose?

Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) informs him not to worry, Musa (upon him peace) is told to hit his staff and the Nile parts, Musa (upon him peace) was told to go but he feared that Pharaoh would come after him.

Enough for me Is Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) a blessed protector, said Ibrahim (upon him peace) when he was thrown into the fire.

Suraka (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with them) caught up with the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) when he was making Hijra, the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) made dua and Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) send Gabriel (upon him peace) prevented Suraka from coming any further. The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) asked him if he would like the Jewels of Persia? It was during the Caliphate of Umar (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) that this was realised.

On the first night of the Battle of Khandaq, the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) asked someone to check the trench, no one came forward, he (peace and blessings upon him) asked again and said that would guarantee that they come back, again no one came forward. He asked for a third time and said he will be with me in Heaven. Hudaifah got up and went, he said afterwards he was scared that his aw’ra would be uncovered, as he stood up he saw his clothes lengthen.

The only thing you need is patience and you will see things change with you own eyes.

Ali Zayn Al abideen (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) said about the Day of Judgement. “A call will be made, were the patient will enter heaven without reckoning.” When the angels will be asked why they are being allowed into heaven they will reply, “ We were patient with things that happened and sins until we were taken by Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala).”

The wife (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) of Abu Talha (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) was married to him and her Mahr was the Shadada. A son of theirs called Umair (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) fell sick and after fajr, Abu Talha kissed the boy and when to work. The boy died during the day, she prayed over him. When Abu Talha returned his wife cooked him a good meal, after eating he asked her, “how is the boy?” She replied, “He is better than before.” In the morning she informed him about his death, she said, “ I am very sad, they borrowed something and Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) took it back.” Abu Talha told the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) about this event, “Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) blessed your night.” They would go on to have 10 sons all would become Quran memorises

If you want to have the best, you need to do well and you’ll have a good life.

Bring the Sunna into your houses, minds, ears and heart and you will become light upon light.

As soon as you are born your days are numbered

Every time you lay down in your bed realise that you may never wake up, sleep in the minor death

Living the Sunna

Its a fortune for those who taste fortunes

Some people can't taste fortunes

Imam Suyuti (May Allah's Ta'ala mercy be with him) said, “Every time I read the Quran and do tafsir, I find something different."

Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) always gives us (human beings) examples. The knowledge of man is imperfect because you still have to learn

We are either a slave to one or a slave to many

Some people are a slaves to their desires of drink, etc

When you are a slave to creation (that is true slavehood).

Bishr Al hafi’s (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) house used to be the party centre in Baghdad. One of his servants was dumping some food when he was approached by a very dark, thin man who was called Musa ibn Jafir ibn Zayn Al abideen ibn Hussein ibn Ali ibn abu talib (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with them). Musa (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) said, “Let me ask something before you dump this food, your master a free man or a slave.” “If he was a slave to Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) he would’ve feared him.”
When the servant informed Bishr (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him), he ran out to find out who this man was.
(This was the beginning of Bishr (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) repentance.)

Our problem is how we bring out Islam to the people

Ali ibn Abu talib (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) found a servant crying, “Why are you crying?” he asked, ther servant told him that he had brought some dates that were bad and the shopkeeper refused to take them back. Ali (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) went to the shopkeeper to ask him to change them, he refused and pushed Ali (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) away until some of the companions (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) came and informed the shopkeeper that he had pushed the Caliph. The shopkeeper became scared and asked if there was anything that he could do to please the Caliph, Ali (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) said, “I would be pleased, if you pleased Allah with yourself.”

From hadith, “He who cheats is not from us.” Islam came to perfect noble character.

If you please Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala), Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala will make people pleased with you.

The people who wanted to burn Ibrahim (upon him peace) took 6 months to collect the wood and when they lit it, the birds could not fly over it.

You follow the Sunna by loving the one who gave you the sunna.

The truth is usually unpopular

Effort and distance should not matter

We have too many chiefs and not enough Indians

Bilal (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) said on this deathbed, to his wife, “What is wrong with you? Tomorrow I’ll be with my beloved Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him), I have been waiting to this moment all my life.

Some people don’t realise what it is to life with the Sunna

You need to make the Sunna more important than anything else

One of companions (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) was put on a piece of wood, nails were driven into him, his eyes were gouged out. Just before the Quresh were going to kill him they asked him, “Would you rather be at home with your family and Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) here.” He replied, “No, I swear by Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala), I would rather go through this 70 times than Muhammad (peace and blessings upon him) to have thorn in his hand.”

Zayn Al abideen (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) was doing Wudu, his servant was scared and she looked at him, he was yellow. He said, “You don’t know who I am going to stand in front of soon.”

You only follow, if you love

We need to think about how long we think about the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) (this is a sign of love.)

A sign of love is to love what the person you love, loves, food, books, the people who he loves.

Majnun kissed the walls of a city because of who lived in the walls

The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) honoured the black stone and so was the Ka’ba because he encircled it

Listen with the ears of you heart

You don’t live your Sunna, you live his sunna

You should have a yearning to follow the Sunna

When you read/hear a hadith you should imagine that he is talking to you, there are two kinds of love: love of faith and love of beauty.

Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) gives you and maintains blessings, he gives to us and we decrease in our need to follow him (We think its from ourselves.)

Loving is being the presence of Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) as though he sees you but you know you can’t see him.

Abdul qadir Jilani (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) stated three levels of fasting;
1. To abstain from food and drink,
2. Everything that disobeys Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala),
3. Abstain from everything except Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala)

Love of Allah (Subhanu wa Ta’ala) is like being in an academy in which you go up in levels.

There is a difference between substance and subversion (theres difference between true knowledge and what people think is knowledge.)

The signs of love;
1. When love someone you are totally abosorbed by them
2. You abandon what you love for they do
3. You are still behind them and need to catch up.

Jabir ibn Abdullah Al Ansari (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with him) said after the Minbar had been built and the tree was left, the tree began to moan, all the companions (May Allah Ta’ala be pleased with them) could hear it. The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) came down from the Minbar and hugged the tree and then the tree began to calm down. He (peace and blessings upon him) said, “If I had not done that, the tree would’ve been crying to the day of judgement.”

What’s wrong with you, if a tree was screaming.

One of the companions used to cry because he couldn’t be with the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) all the time

Living the Sunna means getting close to the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him)

You can see him by being persistent

He (peace and blessings upon him) said, “I have left you with two things, if you hold fast to them, you will not go astray, the book and my family.” A hadith in Tirmindi and ibn Hakim (May Allah's Ta'ala mercy be with them).

Worry about yourself not others

If you want to learn how to drive you go to a driving instructor, so we need to find an instructor. So we can learn how to drive.

The relation between sins and hardships

Everything is connected; every living thing is connected with each other, the sun, the moon, everything living thing is connected to each other in co-existence

All our actions are linked to our places in the after life

We are returning to Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala and to the day of judgement

Everything we do affects our environment

When you say Astgraful Allah, the effects the movement of the clouds, this will cause rain. When we say this problems will become easy, if it was constricting then it will come wide

There was a man who cheated a Jewish man but the man didn’t want to go to the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) because he knew he would judge justly (peace and blessings upon him).

If we have problems then we must go back to Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala and the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him)

We can’t expect to get away with disobedience

Ever time someone, cheat, lie it effects their lives

Someone must correct themselves first before correcting themselves.

More sins, more hardship, simple

We should have a new day resolution

One part of Taqwa is fearing Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala, learn the deen and apply it, there are those who know Allah Subhanu wa Ta’ala

If we behave ourselves our live will be much more easy

Being yourself into account everyday

The Prophet (peace and blessings upon him) prescribes medicine for the heart, we need to go to the doctor of hearts and the prescription.
